Rider Floyd Landis puts case to US Anti-Doping Agency
American rider Floyd Landis has appealed to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to drop the doping charges against him.
Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone after winning stage 17 of this year's Tour de France - an event he went on to win, but Landis' lawyer claims the tests on the 'A' and 'B' urine samples did not meet World Anti-Doping Agency criteria.
The USADA review board are expected to make a recommendation on the case within the week, and based on the board's recommendation, the USADA will then decide whether to charge Landis with an offence.
Floyd Landis, who has repeatedly denied taking performance-enhancing drugs, gave an incredible performance on the stage 17 ride to Morzine after he had struggled on the final climb the day before.
Various reasons have been put forward for the failed test, including dehydration, injections for pain in his hip, natural metabolism and that Floyd Landis drank whisky and beer the night before the event.
