Racing cyclist Ivan Basso admits Operation Puerto involvement
Italian racing cyclist Ivan Basso has finally admitted that he was involved in the Operation Puerto blood doping scandal after a long period of denying having any part in it.
Ivan Basso, 29, is reported to have told the anti-doping prosecutor of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) that he would cooperate with their probe into the matter.
Ivan Basso, who is last year's Tour of Italy winner, is one of dozens of cyclists that have been named as involved in the doping scandal and just last week he quit the Discovery Channel team after CONI had called him to a hearing to answer to charges about the matter.
The doping scandal has caused a shadow over his career and Ivan Basso was excluded from last year's Tour de France because he was on a list of cyclists who had allegedly had contact with a Spanish doctor accused of running a Spanish blood doping clinic.
The Italian Olympic Committee and the Italian cycling federation in October cleared Ivan Basso of any involvement, however, CONI reopened their investigation after new evidence was presented.
