Oscar Pereiro gets 2006 Tour de France yellow jersey
Spanish racing cyclist Oscar Pereiro has been awarded the 2006 Tour de France winner's yellow jersey at a special ceremony that took place in Madrid.
Oscar Pereiro, 30, was officially proclaimed the winner after American rider Floyd Landis lost the title after he failed a doping test.
Oscar Pereiro said proudly: "This is a very important day for me."
Oscar Pereiro rides for the Caisse d'Epargne cycling team and he had held the yellow jersey for five days only to lose his winning position after Floyd Landis made an amazing comeback of speed towards the end of the race.
However, Floyd Landis subsequently failed the doping test, although Oscar Pereiro was not made official winner until a lengthy investigation by the American Arbitration Association had taken place.
Oscar Pereiro said he felt sorry for Floyd Landis and he explained:"He was disqualified after the biggest triumph of his life and won't be able to enjoy it. But as a sportsman you have to stick to the rules."
