Organisers of the Tour of Britain announce route
The route for the 2007 Tour of Britain cycling race, which will begin in London on Sunday, 9 September, has been announced by the organisers of the event.
The Tour of Britain begins in Crystal Palace Park with its first-ever prologue time trial and then followed by six stages around England and Scotland - the first stage is from Reading to Southampton, and then Yeovil to Taunton, Worcester to Wolverhampton, and Rotherham to Bradford.
The fifth stage is from Liverpool to Kendal, and finally stage six runs from Dumfries to Glasgow.
A total of nearly 100 riders in 16 teams will be participating in this year's Tour of Britain, and it will be a stage longer than the 2006 Tour.
Tour of Britain organisers say they have addressed any worries that have been brought up for this year's event by employing a permanent team of 28 police motorcyclists to create and ensure a rolling road closure programme.
The Tour of Britain organisers have also asked that local authorities make sure there are no parked cars on the last 8-10km of the route before the finish on each stage.
