Olympic champion cyclist Chris Hoy targets world record
Olympic and world kilometre champion cyclist Chris Hoy is hoping to make amends for the removal of the event from the Olympic programme by setting a new world record.
Chris Hoy is making plans for an attempt, "probably in mid-May", to beat Arnaud Tournant's world record of 58.875 secs, set in 2001 at altitude in Bolivia, and he told Cyclingnews website all about it.
"Arnaud was doing 1.01sec at sea level beforehand, which I can do as well," Chris Hoy said and he added: "At this stage we're just trying to get the funding in place."
Chris Hoy's Olympic record of 1.00.711, set in Athens, is the fastest time ever at sea level.
Arnaud Tournant's first ever sub-minute record was set at La Paz, where Chris Hoy may also try for his own record-breaker.
"All I know is that if I'm going to break it anywhere then that's the place to do it," Chris Hoy said.
