No Floyd Landis for this year's Tour de France
American professional cyclist Floyd Landis, who won last year's Tour de France has agreed that he will not be taking part in July this year and the French anti-doping agency (AFLD) has also confirmed this news.
The AFLD had to postpone a decision on whether Floyd Landis would be allowed to compete again in France.
Floyd Landis, 31, is said to have appealed to the AFLD to wait until after an American anti-doping agency ruling is made on 14 May and in return, he has agreed not to race in France in 2007.
"Mr Landis requested that the AFLD allow him to first defend himself in front of the American agency," an AFLD statement explained.
"He has agreed not to take part in any cycling competition in France before the end of 2007 and that includes this year's Tour de France.
"On the basis of that commitment, the agency has decided to adjourn the hearing to a later date that will be decided on how the American procedure proceeds but no later than the end of June," the AFLD statement continued.
Floyd Landis, who is currently recovering from a hip operation and has denied any wrongdoing, could face a two-year ban by the AFLD because he tested positive for testosterone in the 2006 Tour.
