Great Britain cyclists beaten to the Gold in World Cup
Great Britain were beaten to the gold medal in the men's team pursuit at the Manchester leg of the World Cup.
The quartet, under the Recycling.co.uk banner, had led New Zealand in the closing seconds before just missing out on the line.
The cycling team's bid had been hindered by illness, with both Mark Cavendish and Rob Hayles falling sick this week.
"That was a proper fight," said Rob Hayles. "There was no holding back in that won. It was full on."
Rob Hayles blamed his virus and also an incident at his local
supermarket when he "clothes-lined" a bag snatcher attempting to escape
on a bicycle.
"That's got to be worth at least a couple of seconds," Rob Hayles added.
Victoria Pendleton won her second medal in just 24 hours with bronze in
the 500m, losing out to winner Natallia Tsylinskaya and Yvonne
Hjgenaar.
"I didn't expect to do that well," said Victoria Pendleton. "I think if I'd done specific training I might have done better."
