German cyclist Patrik Sinkewitz admits to doping
German cyclist Patrik Sinkewitz has admitted that he used the illegal blood-booster erythropoietin (EPO) as well as receiving prohibited blood transfusions in the past.
Patrik Sinkewitz, 27, had been sacked by his past team T-Mobile during this year's Tour de France after he had failed a drugs test.
Patrik Sinkewitz was quoted in an interview in Der Speigel as having said: "I felt guilty about it all."
But Patrik Sinkewitz claimed that he ceased using EPO in 2006 and he blamed his failed doping test on a testosterone gel used in training - he had tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone on 8 June.
Patrik Sinkewitz recently gave evidence to the German Cyling Federation's (BDR) disciplinary committee in an attempt to get the two-year ban he expects reduced.
Patrik Sinkewitz admitted to Der Speigel that he first began using EPO in 2003 when he was with Team Quick-Step and then carried on using it with the T-Mobile team until 2006.
