German cyclist Jan Ullrich for Giro d'Italia
German cyclist Jan Ullrich will be riding in this year's Giro d'Italia
and fine-tuning his bid for a second Tour de France winner's yellow
jersey.
The Giro starts on 6 May and ends 28 May, just over a month before the Tour de France on 1 July.
"I'm not looking at the general classification but I will be keen to test my legs on a few key stages," said Jan Ullrich.
The 32-year-old T-Mobile rider will be starting his season at the Circuit de la Sarthe on 4-7 April.
Jan Ullrich has been backed to gain a victory at this year's Tour de France by the American cycling legend Lance Armstrong.
Jan Ullrich had won the race in 1997 but was quickly beaten by Lance
Armstrong, who was champion for seven years in a row before announcing
that he was going to retire after his 2005 success.
