Gary Wiggins, father of cyclist Bradley Wiggins, dies
Gary Wiggins, father of British cycling champion Bradley Wiggins, has been found unconscious in "suspicious" circumstances and he subsequently died in hospital. Australian police are investigating.
Gary Wiggins, 55, who was a former cycling star himself, was found lying next to a road in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia.
Police say that the circumstances before Gary Wiggins met with his death still need to be investigated fully and details need confirmation.
However, the Newcastle Herald has reported that he either suffered a beating or a drunken fall, and further that Gary Wiggins was estranged from his son Bradley Wiggins.
A post-mortem is going to be carried out and police are awaiting the results but they have also appealed for information that can help with their investigation.
