Former Telekom team boss Walter Godefroot denies doping

godefroot Former Telekom team boss, Belgian Walter Godefroot, has said he was not involved in any way with the doping of racing cyclists during the 1990s.

Walter Godefroot said: "I did not organise any doping in our cycling team, nor did I finance it."

Walter Godefroot also threatened to take legal action against former Telekom massage therapist Jef D'Hont, who had detailed alleged drugs use within the team in his recent book.

However, several ex-Telekom team riders have confessed that they took performance-enhancing drugs when Walter Godefroot was in charge.

Bjarne Riis became the first cyclist to admit to having used banned substances while winning the Tour de France, and he alleged that Walter Godefroot knew about and ignored the drug use within the team.

Walter Godefroot admitted he didn't question his own riders because he was too busy at that particular time and he explained: "All things said, I wasn't too close to them."
