Danish cyclist Michael Rasmussen gets banned
The Monaco Cycling Federation has given Danish cyclist Michael Rasmussen a two-year ban after he was thrown out of the Tour de France in 2007.
Rasmussen, 34, was given the sack by his Rabobank team whilst in the lead on the Tour after it came out that he had lied about where he had been while training.
The Monaco Cycling Federation were in charge of Rasmussen's racing licence.
The ban runs from his exclusion from the Tour de France until 25 July next year.
Michael Rasmussen, who is taking legal action against Rabobank for unlawful dismissal, had been informed before the 2007 Tour began that he had missed a number of random doping tests, and then he admitted he had done this.
UCI regulations state that cyclists are punished for three errors regarding their whereabouts in an 18-month term.
Rasmussen claimed last November that he had lied about where he had been before the race due to personal problems.
