Cyclists Tyler Hamilton and Joerg Jaksche not allowed in Giro
American racing cyclist Tyler Hamilton and German rider Joerg Jaksche have both been banned by their Tinkoff Credit Systems team from competing in the Giro d'Italia.
This is because like Ivan Basso both Tyler Hamilton and Joerg Jaksche have been named as involved in the Spanish Operation Puerto doping scandal, and Tyler Hamilton has already in the past served a two-year ban for doping in the 2004 Tour of Spain.
Tinkoff Credit Systems said they decided on the ban in an attempt "at relieving pressure created around the Giro."
And the team added: "The two riders have been suspended until the authorities have sorted the implications of Operation Puerto."
Over 50 professional cyclists were forced to miss the 2006 Tour de France because of connections to the investigation, which is still going on.
Tyler Hamilton and Joerg Jaksche were scheduled to take part in the race, which begins on Saturday.
