Cyclist Nicole Cooke aims for gold at the World Road Race
Welsh woman cyclist Nicole Cooke wants to continue her run of success by finally taking gold at the World Road Race championships, which begin in Salzburg on Wednesday.
Nicole Cooke had won road race bronze in 2003 and came second behind Regina Schleicher of Germany last year and already this year she has won the women's World Cup, the prestigious Thuringen Rundfahrt and the women's version of the Tour de France in July.
Nicole Cooke rides the time trial on Wednesday before Saturday's road race.
And Swiss rider Karin Thurig, who won trial bronze at the Athens Olympics, aims for her third straight women's time trial title, while in the men's event, Belgian Tom Boonen is hoping to follow up his victory in Madrid last year and to become the first man since Italy's Gianni Bugno to claim consecutive world titles.
"The rainbow jersey stands out and gets you noticed," said Tom Boonen.
