Cyclist Lance Armstrong may support Alberto Contador
Returning American cyclist Lance Armstrong may have to race in support of Astana fellow rider Alberto Contador in next year's Tour de France, Astana cycling director Johan Bruyneel has explained.
Bruyneel says that Contador, who was the Tour de France winner last year, will not be leaving Astana and that whichever of the two cyclists performs the best will be supported.
Contador had made it public that he intended leaving Astana if he was given the role of supporting Armstrong, but Bruyneel says the Spanish cyclist is not allowed to quit.
In the meantime, Armstrong has refused a request for urine samples from his first Tour de France win to be tested again for the banned drug EPO.
Pierre Bordry, the president of France's anti-doping agency, has claimed that Armstrong should have his first Tour de France victory sample from 1999 tested again but Armstrong rejects this.
