Cyclist Jan Ullrich starts season in the Tour de Normandie
Former Tour de France winner T-Mobile cyclist Jan Ullrich will make his start to the season in the six-day Tour de Romandie, which begins on Tuesday.
Jan Ullrich 32, suffered an injured knee, which hampered his early-season training routine.
"I'm completely back on track," said the German cyclist, who will use the race in Switzerland to test his form before making a decision on whether to ride in May's Giro d'Italia.
Favourites tipped to win the Tour de Romandie include the riders Alejandro Valverde, Alexandre Moos and Bradley McGee.
The six-day race starts with a 3.4km prologue time trial around Geneva's city centre and finishes with a 20.4km individual time trial in Lausanne on Sunday and the other stages are spread across the south-east of Switzerland with 10 major climbs.
Jan Ullrich, who is tipped by Lance Armstrong as the rider most likely to win cycling's biggest prize this summer, will be joined by many of the same team-mates who will support him in the Tour de France, including Eddy Mazzoleni and Oscar Sevilla.
Jan Ullrich has finished runner-up in the Tour de France five times, three times behind Lance Armstrong, who had been champion for seven successive years before retiring after his 2005 success.
