British cyclist David Millar worries about cycling
British racing cyclist David Millar has described his sport as a "complete mess" and he feels that cycling will have a hard time getting over the bad image it has gained due to the doping scandals.
A recent spate of drugs confessions has added to cycling's problems, and investigations continue into many leading riders who have been thought to be involved in doping.
David Millar, 30, who has served a ban for two years himself, said: "Cycling is a complete mess at the moment and it's been building up for years."
David Millar pleaded guilty to having used the banned blood-boosting drug erythropoietin (EPO) in 2004, however, now he enters this year's Tour de France, starting in London on Saturday, as a reformed character and anti-doping campaigner.
David Millar may be showing the right way to succeed in sport but he knows that cycling and its public image have taken a real blow, which will take a while to heal. David Millar said: "It's going to get worse before it gets better."
