Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish to miss Tour de France
British racing cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish have decided that they will miss the 2008 Tour de France because they are going to concentrate on the Olympic Games in Beijing next August instead.
Bradley Wiggins's decision is not surprising because format changes have lowered his hopes of a victory, however, Mark Cavendish would have had a chance at winning an early stage of the race.
Mark Cavendish said: "I know the Tour is more important than the Olympics, but in Britain that's not the case. I'll concentrate on the track after the first part of the season."
Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish are currently taking part in the Six Days of Ghent track event, which ends on Sunday.
Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish's decision to take part in this event suggests they are likely to form a Great Britain Madison team in Beijing.
Instead of participating in the Tour de France, which is held in July, Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will be riding in the Giro d'Italia in May.
