American rider Floyd Landis denies cheating at Tour de France
American rider Floyd Landis has denied cheating ahead of winning this year's Tour de France despite the fact that he tested positive for excess levels of testosterone after winning stage 17 of this year's race.
American magazine Sports Illustrated asked him if he had cheated and Floyd Landis replied: "No."
Floyd Landis, 30, says he "can't be hopeful" about the B test but hopes to prove he has naturally high levels of testosterone.
"I don't know what the explanation for it is, whether it was a mistake or whether it's an occurance from some other circumstances that go on in the race or something I did," Floyd Landis said.
"But it was not from an exogenous outside source of testosterone.
"I wouldn't hold it against somebody if they don't believe me. I'm a realist," added Floyd Landis, who has been suspended by his Phonak team and now faces the prospect of being stripped of his Tour title and sacked.
Floyd Landis has hired Spanish doctor Luis Hernandez, who has assisted other riders who returned test results showing high levels of testosterone, to help fight his case.
