American cyclist Levi Leipheimer wins Dauphine Libere in France
American cyclist Levi Leipheimer ended a perfect preparation to next month's Tour de France when he won the Dauphine Libere race in France on Sunday.
The Gerolsteiner team rider, who came in at sixth in the 2005 Tour de France, claimed the Dauphine yellow jersey on stage four.
French cyclist Christophe Moreau was second overall and German Bernard Kohl was in third place.
Norwegian Thor Hushovd was victorious in a mass sprint to claim the final 131km stage from St-Jean-de-Maurienne to Grenoble and Samuel Dumoulin of France was just edged into second position by Hushovd as the race finished in high temperatures.
Levi Leipheimer, 32, has bettered last year's second place without winning a single stage, but his consistency in the time-trials and mountain stages got great results.
"This win will give them and me a lot of confidence in the Tour," said Levi Leipheimer.
