Alberto Contador not allowed in Hamburg Cyclassics
Tour de France winning cyclists Alberto Contador and Michael Rasmussen are not allowed to take part in this month's Hamburg Cyclassics, organisers of the German race have said.
Alberto Contador's name has been connected to the Spanish Operation Puerto blood doping scandal, and although he was cleared of being involved he is still not welcome at the Hamburg event.
Michael Rasmussen was banned from the race because his Rabobank team had fired him for missing doping tests and lying.
The sport of cycling is doing what it can to clear up its image after even more high-profile drugs scandals at this year's Tour de France, and so the organisers of the Hamburg Cyclassics race are not taking any risks.
Frank Bertling, who is the managing director of the event, said: "Our basic position is that we don't want to have any riders in the Hamburg race who are on the Fuentes list."
The list he referred to is reported to include over 50 professional cyclists who were connected with Operation Puerto.
