Spanish drugs scandal cyclists not welcome in Tour de France
All the cyclists named in the Spanish doping scandal have been informed that they will not be welcome in this year's Tour de France race.
There were more than 50 riders that were identified in the probe, which was closed after the judge ruled that no offences had been committed under Spanish Law.
Sports journalist and Tour de France race director Christian Prudhomme said that all those riders who were under suspicion should not be allowed to take part in the near future, because as he explained: "Cycling can't afford to let riders in the case enter the tour if they're not cleared of suspicion."
And Christian Prudhomme is reported to have said in the French newspaper L'Equipe: "I have started discussing the subject with several team managers."
Earlier in April, a DNA sample taken from former Tour de France champion Jan Ullrich was matched against blood bags seized by the Spanish police in the investigation, and although Jan Ullrich has since retired from cycling, other riders named in the probe such as, Ivan Basso of Italy, are still hoping to compete.
