Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe faces Bernard Hopkins in April
Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe has confirmed a date for his light-heavyweight fight against American Bernard Hopkins.
Joe Calzaghe says the fight will take place on 12 April and it will probably be in Las Vegas.
New York had been suggested, with Yankee Stadium or Madison Square Gardens mentioned as potential venues, however, it seems more likely that the better capacity and publicity opportunities offered by Las Vegas will influence the final decision.
Joe Calzaghe, 35, explained: "The talks with Golden Boy Promotions, Hopkins' representatives, are almost over and I've been told the fight's on 12 April."
Philadelphia's Bernard Hopkins, 42, is often thought of as the best light-heavyweight in the world, and Joe Calzaghe has wanted a 'super-fight' against him for some time. The fight he has been looking for is due to happen in April and Joe Calzaghe is looking forward to his visit to do battle in America.
