Welsh boxer Jason Cook's European light welterweight title bid rescheduled
Welsh boxer Jason Cook's bid to win the vacant European light welterweight title has been rescheduled for September.
Jason Cook, a former postman from Maesteg in South Wales, and aged 31, was due to fight Italian Giuseppe Lauri on 7 July, but withdrew because of an ankle injury.
Giuseppe Lauri, 30, will now be travelling to Wales for their bout at the Afan Lido, Port Talbot, on 22 September.
Jason Cook won the European lightweight title back in 2002 with a surprising knockout win over Sandro Casamonica in Italy, but has only fought twice in two years since then.
Jason Cook has a strong record of 24-2 (10 KOs), but lost his IBO lightweight belt in a third-round stoppage against Aldo Rios in November 2004 and his comeback fight against Gary Reid in November last year was ended in a controversial second-round disqualification win.
Giuseppe Lauri, known as 'The End', also boasts an impressive past record of 41-4 (24 KOs), and has not lost since 2003.
