Welsh boxer Gary Lockett ready for Kelly Pavlik
Welsh boxer Gary Lockett looks set to become Wales' fourth world champion because he is looking forward to aiming for Kelly Pavlik's middleweight titles.
Gary Lockett, 31, is expected to follow fellow Welshman Joe Calzaghe to America and to challenge Kelly Pavlik on 7 June, in either New York or Atlantic City.
Gary Lockett is the top challenger for Kelly Pavlik's WBO belt and the fight looks likely to be confirmed this week.
Boxing promoter Frank Warren said: "We're in negotiations and hopefully we can do a deal with Pavlik's camp pretty soon."
Gary Lockett is aiming to be the fourth world champion who has trained at coach Enzo Calzaghe's famous Newbridge gym.
The other boxing champions who have done their traing in Newbridge are Joe Calzaghe, who is the undisputed super-middleweight king, Enzo Maccarinelli, who holds the WBO cruiserweight belt, and Gavin Rees, who is the WBA light welterweight champion.
