Vernon "the Viper" Forrest beats Carlos Baldomir
American boxer Vernon Forrest, who is nicknamed "the Viper," won the vacant WBC light middleweight title by a unanimous points decision against his opponent Carlos Baldomir in Washington.
Vernon Forrest, 36, from Augusta, Georgia, out-scored Argentinean fighter Carlos Baldomir 118-109, 118-109 and 116-112 and in so doing advanced his impressive record to 39 wins in 41 bouts.
Vernon Forrest, who also made back-to-back victories against Sugar Shane Mosley in 2002, has now won five of seven title bouts.
Carlos Baldomir, also 36, has suggested he was considering retirement after a second straight loss and he suffered a unanimous points defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr last November.
"I think this was my last fight," said Carlos Baldomir after suffering his 11th defeat.
Vernon Forrest has now won four straight bouts and looks set for a defence or a possible unification fight with IBF titleholder Cory Spinks.
After taking nearly two years off from fighting, Vernon Forrest is currently making his comeback in style.
