US boxer Kelly Pavlik beats Jermain Taylor
American boxer Kelly Pavlik won the undisputed world middleweight crown when he defeated compatriot fighter Jermain Taylor with a seventh-round stoppage on Saturday.
Kelly Pavlik, 25, recovered after being hit to the canvas by Jermain Taylor in round two, and he came back with so many punches he left Jermain Taylor slumped in the corner of the ring.
Jermain Taylor, 28, was defending for the fifth time the title he won from Bernard Hopkins in July 2005, but he was no match for Kelly Pavlik.
With Kelly Pavlik boasting a perfect 31-0 past record and with Jermain Taylor also undefeated at 27-0-1, it was bound to be a great fight.
Earlier in the fight it was Kelly Pavlik who took the mandatory count from referee Steve Smoger and he still looked dazed as Jermain Taylor went to finish him off, however, Kelly Pavlik managed to hang on and gather back his power and he came blazing back in the third round.
"I just can't believe I lost," Jermain Taylor said.
