UK boxer Jon "Jono" Thaxton faces Yuri Romanov
UK lightweight champion boxer Jon Thaxton, who is nicknamed "Jono," will be facing Belorussian fighter Yuri Romanov in Norwich on 4 April.
Jon Thaxton has been thought to be taking on Commonwealth champion Amir Khan, however, he will instead be aiming to better his rankings fighting Yuri Romanov, 25, who has been rated as the WBA's number two in their January boxing list.
Norwich southpaw Jon Thaxton, 33, knows his opponent won't be an easy man to beat and he said: "It is going to be a tough fight but I am ready for it."
Jon Thaxton went on to add: "I'm over the moon to have the opportunity to fight for the European title. My promoter Mick Hennessy has delivered what he promised and pulled out all the stops to secure this fight for me."
Yuri Romanov has an impressive record of 20 victories (13 by knockout) and two losses, and has beaten Steve Murray and Bobby Vanzie in the past.
