Ricky Hatton won't box for another six months
Boxer Ricky Hatton will not fight again for six months after knocking
out Carlos Maussa to add WBA light welterweight honours to his IBF belt
on Saturday.
Ricky Hatton dominated the fight, but got cut above both eyes in separate clashes of heads and went to hospital for treatment.
"One cut is quite bad and the other is not so bad," said trainer Billy Graham.
"As a precaution, we're getting it stitched by a plastic surgeon. He'll
be out for six months, but it's been a hard year for him and he needs a
rest."
Ricky Hatton has been linked with a fight against Canadian
Arturo Gatti, who is a big draw in the USA but Graham said his charge
wanted to take on unbeaten WBC champion Floyd Mayweather in America.
"We want Floyd Mayweather," he declared.
"He's a great fighter and you've got to go in against the best. The boxing world is screaming out for it."
Ricky Hatton said that his bloodied eyes were testament to his ambition
after stopping Carlos Maussa in the ninth round in Sheffield.
"People didn't believe me when I said I wanted the big fights," Ricky Hatton said.
"I want Mayweather and Miguel Angel Cotto. Look at these eyes, I want those fights and I'll get them."
