Oscar de la Hoya won't fight again this year Boxer Oscar de la Hoya says he will not fight again this year but he claims he doesn't want to retire until he has fought Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Oscar de la Hoya, 33, was facing a deadline to announce a September superfight with Floyd Mayweather, who is thought to be the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
Oscar de la Hoya said: "I'll only retire once and felt too much pressure to decide.
"At this point I'm leaning towards not retiring. I do want to fight on because this is what I love."
Oscar de la Hoya has been considering his future career since he stopped Ricardo Mayorga in May to claim the WBC light middleweight title in May, however, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist, who has won titles in five weight classes, wouldn't be rushed into a decision so soon after his win in Las Vegas.
Oscar de la Hoya said: "The decison was too much for me, it was overwhelming. That's why I postponed making it.
"But when and if I decide to have my next fight it will be Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"That's the only name I can come up with that will satisfy me to train for three months and prepare myself. It's the only name out there for me."
