Nottingham boxer Carl Froch kept his titles but Brian Magee fought well
Nottingham boxer Carl Froch hung on to his British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles, but Brian Magee gave him strong opposition and a tough fight.
Carl Froch, 28, finished the York Hall contest with a superb uppercut in the 11th round and Brian Magee was left needing oxygen lying on the canvas in spite of putting up an impressive fight.
Irish fighter Brian Magee got off to a bad start and was knocked down in the opening round, but he came back well and put Carl Froch under pressure for a long time, but Froch's class eventually showed who was the better boxer as he recorded his 19th straight win.
Earlier on he was encouraged by his first-round success and so Carl Froch started to look for a big finish but he paid the price as Brian Magee opened up a cut underneath his right eye.
And Brian Magee got stronger as the fight wore on and had Carl Froch in real trouble, before the champion got the better of him the in the latter stages of the fight.
Carl Froch said his performance had been affected by an injured right hand, sustained in the first round.
"I damaged my right hand when I put him down early," carl Froch said. "It was a cracking uppercut but I'm a little paranoid about it because I spent a lot of money on it, getting it fixed.
"Brian Magee's a tough, strong, experienced operator. He's been in with some of the best fighters in the world.
"That's my 19th fight. I told people what I was made of and what I could do, I came here and I've proved it," Carl Froch added.
