Mexican boxer Rafael Marquez beats South African Silence Mabuza
Mexican boxer Rafael Marquez retained his IBF bantamweight title after he defeated South African fighter Silence Mabuza with a ninth-round stoppage.
Rafael Marquez had caused cuts over both of Silence Mabuza's eyes when the South African's corner threw in the towel.
And on the undercard, Rafael Marquez's brother Juan Manuel became the interim WBO featherweight champion with a stoppage of Thailand's Terdsak Jandaeng.
This means he could now face Scottish boxer Scott Harrison, who holds the full title.
Juan Manuel Marquez floored Terdsak Jandaeng in the second round with an uppercut and although he fought back, Marquez again put him on his seat in the seventh before the referee waved the contest off.
It was the first time Juan Manuel had fought since a debatable points defeat by Chris John in March and Scott Harrison has not fought this year either because he has been battling alcohol addiction and depression. Scott Harrison has been given a deadline of 9 November to defend his crown.
