Matt Skelton beats Danny Williams and targets Nikolai Valuev Matt Skelton is hoping to fight Russian giant and WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev after he got his revenge over Danny Williams whom he beat in Cardiff on Saturday.
Matt Skelton, 39, won by a unanimous decision over Danny Williams to reclaim the Commonwealth crown and move closer to a bout with the 7ft 1in boxer.
Matt Skelton said: "Valuev is a big fellow but he is beatable.
"I'd have to train a certain way to beat him and I'm not saying I'd want to fight toe to toe with him."
Promoter Frank Warren is currently talking to Nikolai Valuev's camp hoping to land an unlikely shot for Matt Skelton, who only started boxing four years ago.
Matt Skelton stayed on his toes to defeat Williams, whose decision to come in at 20st 8lbs backfired badly as he was left looking sluggish in comparison with Skelton.
However, Danny Williams, 32, insisted he is nowhere near retiring from his roller coaster boxing career.
Danny Williams said: "I feel very down but I give Matt 100% credit for his performance."
