London boxer Martin Power defends his title against Isaac Ward
London boxer Martin Power was able to defend his British bantamweight title with an eighth-round stoppage of Isaac Ward from Darlington.
Referee Ian John-Lewis stopped the fight 49 seconds into the round with Isaac Ward unable to prevent Martin Power's powerful blows.
Martin Power, 26, has added to his unbeaten professional record now making a total of 19 wins, with eight inside the distance.
Martin Power said: "It went just how I thought it would. I knew it would be tough but it was just a matter of time before I got through and finished him."
And promoter Frank Maloney said: "Ward was too brave for his own good. If I'd been in his corner I'd have pulled him out a round earlier."
It was Isaac Ward's first defeat in a four-year professional career, in which he had won 13 and drew two of his previous 15 fights.
Martin Power now aims for one more British title defence to try and gain the coveted Lonsdale Belt outright before targeting a shot at the European title.
