Lightweight boxer Amir Khan faces first foreign opponent
Lightweight boxer Amir Khan will be facing the first foreign opponent
of his professional career in Nottingham on 28 January when he takes on
Belarussian 21-year-old Vitali Martynov.
"He's a tough kid from Eastern Europe who will be coming to win but I
have encountered plenty of these lads during my time in the amateurs,"
said Amir Khan.
"It's my first six-rounder so I'm not out to blast him straight away. I
want to size him up and then finish him," Amir Khan added.
Amir Khan had four fights in 2005 after turning professional in May.
Amir Khan is not expected to challenge for major titles this
year, but will be building up his boxing experience before launching an
assault on the world in 2007.
"One thing is for sure, I will not let Martynov upset my first fight of
2006, I've got big plans for the year ahead and I will stay on track,"
Amir Khan said.
