Joe Murray is the first UK boxer to get a place in Olympics 2008
UK boxer Joe Murray has become the first British fighter to get a place in the 2008 Olympics.
Joe Murray, 20, did this by beating Mauritius' Commonwealth Games silver medallist Bruno Julie 26-19 in Chicago, and winning the fight meant that Joe Murray qualified for the last eight of the World Amateur Championships as well as getting him a place in Great Britain's team for Beijing.
A proud Joe Murray is reported to have said: "It's a dream come true. I've got to give a massive thank you to my England coach Terry Edwards and my club coach Joe Gallagher."
Joe Murray boxes for the Moss Side amateur club and he is actually a former room-mate of Amir Khan.
Joe Murray also added: "It's not bad going to have two Lancashire fighters reaching two Olympics in a row."
