Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins super-fight confirmed
Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe has confirmed the super-fight with Bernard Hopkins will take place in Las Vegas on 19 April.
Super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, 35, will step up to light-heavyweight and be fighting in America for the first time, whereas Bernard Hopkins, 43, is often considered as the best boxer in the world at the 175lb limit.
Joe Calzaghe said: "This is a dream come true. People always ask me 'when are you going to America?' and now they've got their answer. I won't be taking Hopkins lightly, but I believe I have the tools to beat him."
Joe Calzaghe and Bernard Hopkins, who will face each other at the Thomas and Mack Centre, already met in Las Vegas last month at the weigh-in for the Ricky Hatton versus Floyd Mayweather bout.
Bernard Hopkins had said he "would never let a white boy beat me" as he attempted to ruffle Joe Calzaghe's feathers but the Welshman laughed off the taunts.
Joe Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren said: "I've always wanted Joe to fight Hopkins, because I believe he has the beating of him. "
