Jermain Taylor defends three middleweight world titles against Winky Wright
Boxer Jermain Taylor will be defending his three middleweight world titles against former light middleweight champion Winky Wright in Memphis on Saturday.
Jermain Taylor, 27, outpointed Bernard Hopkins to win the undisputed crown last July but was forced to give up the IBF belt before he was able to win a rematch in December.
Winky Wright, 34, won his first world title in 1996 but hit the big time with two victories over Shane Mosley in 2004 and last May, Wright outclassed the legendary Puerto Rican boxer Felix Trinidad.
Jermain Taylor, a bronze medallist at the 2000 Olympics, is unbeaten in 25 professional fights while Winky Wright has lost only three of his 53 bouts and has not lost for seven years.
"Whoever wins this fight can walk down the street and everyone can say: 'There is the middleweight champion of the world'," said Jermain Taylor's new trainer Emanuel Steward.
Emanuel Steward, who was trainer for Thomas Hearns and Lennox Lewis, was reluctant to take on Jermain Taylor because he thought of Winky Wright as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, however, having put his new charge through his paces in the gymnasium, Steward now is confident that Taylor is the world number one.
