Frank Warren thinks Ruslan Chagaev has made a mistake
Boxing promoter Frank Warren thinks Ruslan Chagaev has made a "big mistake" by going up against Matt Skelton on 19 January.
Frank Warren says that Ruslan Chagaev, 29, from Uzbekistan had agreed to the fight on the basis of how well Matt Skelton, 40, had fought against Michael Sprott in July, and he explained: "Sprott didn't come to fight against Matt, like he did against Chagaev. His head was somewhere else."
Frank Warren added: "I think Chagaev's people have been lulled into a false sense of security."
The fight between Michael Sprott and Matt Skelton had been so bad that fans had booed, and Matt Skelton had only won on points, but a year earlier, Michael Sprott had been defeated inside eight rounds by Ruslan Chagaev.
Frank Warren also said: "When people don't come to fight it doesn't make the opponent look attractive either. In that respect the Sprott fight has worked in Matt's favour in terms of getting him the world title shot."
Matt Skelton will travel to Dusseldorf to face Ruslan Chagaev later this month.
