Frank Warren says Gavin Rees is ready to face Ricky Hatton
Boxing promoter Frank Warren has said that light welterweight champion Gavin Rees is ready to take on Ricky Hatton.
Frank Warren asked: "Why shouldn't it happen?"
Frank Warren went on to explain: "Gavin's undefeated, he was highly ranked before his out-of-the-ring problems, now he's back with a title.
"Gavin has a mandatory defence against Andreas Kotelnik, but before that we hope to get him a voluntary defence on Joe Calzaghe's 3 November undercard."
Gavin Rees, 27, from Newbridge in Wales, won the WBA title from Souleymane M'Baye on Saturday and that took his record to 27-0 (13 KOs), however, Gavin Rees himself feels that a fight with Ricky Hatton is beyond his reach for the time being and he said: "Hatton would be a dream fight, but I know I'm not a big enough name for him."
