Featherweight ex-champion Prince Naseem Hamed talks of return
British former WBO featherweight champion Prince Naseem Hamed, from
Sheffield, has hinted that he will be making a return to the ring after
a three-year lay-off. The 31-year-old boxer has not fought since May
2002 but said he could re-appear in the New Year.
"I've been boxing since I was seven," he told the Sheffield Star newspaper.
"I simply needed a break. I miss boxing and I believe boxing misses
me, too. In the new year you could witness something special."
Prince Naseem Hamed became Britain's youngest world champion when he
won the world featherweight title aged 21 years and seven months in
1995 and he also added the IBF crown when he beat Tom Johnson in London
in 1997. Prince Naseem Hamed claimed the WBC title with a points win
over Cesar Soto in Detroit in 1999.
Prince Naseem Hamed has fought 37 times as a professional, losing only to Marco Antonio Barrera in 2001.
