Enzo Maccarinelli expected to fight Marcelo Fabian Dominguez
Enzo Maccarinelli is expected to fight against Marcelo Fabian Dominguez in his WBO cruiserweight title eliminator at the Millennium Stadium on 8 July.
Argentinean boxer Enzo Maccarinelli, 36, also known as 'El Gordo', has a record of 40-6-1 (21 KOs), with his last defeat against Cengiz Koc in December 2004.
"We are in the final stages of negotiations with Dominguez," promoter Frank Warren told the Wales on Sunday newspaper.
"I'm confident we'll be able to confirm the fight this week."
If the fight goes ahead, the winner will be up against Johnny Nelson for his WBO belt - if the 39-year-old boxing champion recovers from knee trouble in time.
Unless Johnny Nelson can show he is fit before October he will have to surrender his crown to the winner of the 8 July fight.
Enzo Maccarinelli's bout will be second on the bill in Cardiff now that Joe Calzaghe has withdrawn from the card because of a hand injury.
Danny Williams v Matt Skelton at heavyweight headlines the show, and Amir Khan's eighth professional fight will also be on the bill.
