English heavyweight boxer Danny Price defeated by Brad Pitt
England heavyweight Danny Price, from Scarborough, was severely
disappointed after he suffered a controversial defeat in the first
round of the boxing competition.
20-year-old Danny Price was much cleaner and better focused but he
still fell to a 16-12 points loss against the home favourite Australian
Brad Pitt.
"I should have been beating him easily," Danny Price said.
"I've wasted three months of my life training for a bad performance and I have let everybody down," Danny Price added.
Danny Price came out strongly at the bell but Australian boxer Brad
Pitt was able to grab and maul to get around the English fighter's
greater reach.
Brad Pitt was leading by five points after the second round and
although Danny Price produced a grandstand finish, he could not claw
back the lost points.
"I don't think it was the vintage Danny but I think he might have done
enough to win," said England head boxing coach Terry Edwards
afterwards.
