Cruiserweight David Haye gains European title
Cruiserweight David Haye grabbed the European title from Alexander Gurov with an explosive first-round knockout.
David Haye showed his world-class punching power by flattening the
champion with a mighty right hand after just 45 seconds of the contest
and he immediately called for a rematch with Carl Thompson, the only
man to have beaten him in a 16-fight career.
"I want Thompson. I want to clear the only blemish on my record and I think I'm ready to do it," said Haye, 25.
"I've got things just right mentally - this guy is a top fighter and I
took him out with one punch - my power has been coming on so well.
"There was nothing he could have done to stop me - I could have done 100 rounds.
"The only one who could take me to the latter rounds is (WBC and WBA champion) Jean-Marc Mormeck."
David Haye was untested by his Ukrainian rival in the Bracknell ring on
Friday, but did reveal that making the weight was a problem.
"It was so hard getting down to the weight. I was walking around 20lb over the limit," David Haye said.
"I think I have four or five fights left at the division. I need to clean up and then move up to heavyweight."
