British boxer Michael Hunter defends European title
British boxer Michael Hunter, 27, says he is focused on defending his European super bantamweight title and will not be trying for a world title fight too soon.
Michael Hunter, from Hartlepool, only became European champion last October but he now faces a second defence from Spanish fighter German Guartos on Friday.
"I would like to stay at this level for a year or two before I make that final jump to world class," Michael Hunter said.
"I know my time will come but we are not ready for that leap yet."
Michael Hunter showed great fighting spirit when he recovered from being knocked down to claim Esham Pickering's European and Commonwealth belts last year.
Esham Pickering has gone on to secure a tilt at Brazilian Valdemir Pereira's IBF featherweight title in May but Michael Hunter is focused on beating German Guartos in front of his home fans.
"This lad has boxed for the European title before so I have to be careful," said Michael Hunter, who is also the British champion.
