British boxer Martin Power defeated by South African Tshifhiwa Munyai Boxer Martin Power lost his chance of winning the vacant Commonwealth bantamweight title when South Africa's Tshifhiwa Munyai stopped him in their fight in London.
British champion, Martin Power, 26, received his first professional defeat when referee Victor Loughlin ended the contest one minute and 35 seconds into round nine.
Two judges had Martin Power ahead when the fight was stopped, leaving Power and his corner furious at the decision.
Martin Power said: "I didn't think it should have been stopped. I was still in it."
Martin Power had been ready to fight old opponent Ian Napa for a defence of his domestic crown, but his compatriot boxer had pulled out due to injury.
Instead, Tshifhiwa Munyai, who has only fought in four and six rounders in his career, took Napa's place for the York Hall bout.
Martin Power admitted he found Tshifhiwa Munyai an extremely tricky adversary.
"The kid was very tall and game," he said. "I should have kept my hands up a bit more and used better combinations to fend him off, but he was strong," Martin Power said.
