British boxer Joe Calzaghe will retire in a year
British boxer Joe Calzaghe has announced he plans to fight on for another year and then will retire from the sport.
But first, Joe Calzaghe, 35, will add the WBC and WBA belts to his WBO super middleweight title if he can defeat Mikkel Kessler at the Cardiff Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
Joe Calzaghe is reported to have explained: "I realise the end is near. I'm not going to be an Evander Holyfield and fight at 44, getting my head punched in.
"I'm giving myself a 12-month span to keep at the top and then I'll let it go. There'll be no comebacks."
Joe Calzaghe, who is currently undefeated in 43 fights says that he can start to feel his age going against him so he wants to pack it in when he is still on top, and he feels that he will have fulfilled all his ambitions if he defeats the unbeaten Dane Kessler in Cardiff.
