British boxer Danny Williams beats John McDermott
British boxer Danny Williams has kept his heavyweight title by defeating John McDermott in Dagenham on Friday with a points victory.
There were some questions asked about how fair the result was, however, because Williams was docked two points in the 11th round and one in the 12th but then went on to win by a majority decision.
28-year-old Essex boxer McDermott looked set for victory when an uppercut blow hit 35-year-old Williams on the chin.
But then in the fifth round it seemed as if Danny Williams was battling back and was now on top of the fight but later in the bout referee Dave Parris stepped in and docked three separate points for the last two rounds.
The points were lost for a low blow, shoving John McDermott away and then spitting out his gumshield.
Danny Williams said: "Allah was watching over me and I got the decision despite the referee trying to take it off me."
