Brazilian boxer Acelino Freitas wins 4th world title
Brazilian boxer Acelino Freitas claimed the vacant WBO lightweight title in a split decision over Zahir Raheem.
Acelino Freitas used his jab, overhand right and cleaner punches to win the fourth world title of his boxing career.
The judges scored the fight 115-113 and 116-112 for Acelino Freitas but one judge had Zahir Raheem winning 115-113.
Acelino Freitas, who has been tipped as an opponent for British world champion Ricky Hatton got back the title he had lost to Diego Corrales in 2004.
Diego Corrales turned down a mandatory defence of the title against Acelino Freitas and lost the belt.
American boxer Zahir Raheem earned the right to fight for the title in a unanimous decision over Mexican great Erik Morales in October 2005.
On the undercard, Andre Ward, who was the only gold medallist from America at the 2004 Olympics, stopped Andy Kolle at the end of the sixth round in a middleweight fight.
