Bradford boxer Junior Witter for WBC world title
Bradford boxer Junior Witter is ready to fight for the WBC light
welterweight title, which has been vacated by Floyd Mayweather
according to reports.
Junior Witter, 32, is the WBC's mandatory contender and should be
paired off with former WBO champion DeMarcus Corley, 31, who has mixed
in top-class company and won 31 of 36 fights.
"I defend my European title against Giuseppe Lauri in April, so I will be sharp for Corley," said Junior Witter.
And Floyd Mayweather is going up a weight to challenge IBF welterweight champion Zab Judah.
Junior Witter, who has an impressive 33 wins from 36 fights, has been
patiently waiting for a second world-title shot after being out-pointed
by Zab Judah for the IBF belt in 2000.
DeMarcus Corley took Floyd Mayweather, who is arguably the world's best
pound-for-pound boxer, the distance when they faced each other in 2004.
"He's a decent fighter, but he doesn't scare me at all," said Junior Witter, who also holds the British and Commonwealth belts.
Junior Witter would become Britain's second world champion at 140lb if
he wins the WBC title, after IBF and WBA king Ricky Hatton.
